Fluorescent treponemal
antibody-absorption (FTA-ABS) and
microhemagglutination of Treponema pallidum (MHA-TP) are the closest to a “gold standard” for syphilis testing.
The Venereal
Disease Research Laboratory (VDRL) and rapid plasma reagin (RPR)
tests reflect treponemal infection and revert to normal when treated.
FTA, MHA are Always positive
VDRL, RPR tests Reverts back to
normal
